fUn wIth iPhone

My old iPhone is the “2 years ago = 2 centuries of phone time” iPhone 3g. It’s given me 2 good years of service. I’ve dropped it, cracked it, and abused it in various other ways, but it just keeps on ticking.

I am replacing it this year with the “Fantastic 4″ model, but I have no idea when my pre-order will show at Best Buy, so I decided to upgrade the old warrior to iOS4. (And yes, I know I shouldn’t have ordered from BB, but it was a convenience thing, and besides, I get points. GRIN!)

No iPhone 4 love for me today. My better half and I both pre-ordered at Best Buy last week, mere hours before they turned off the pre-order goodness. Last night we got a call from a very apologetic man at the BB store explaining Apple only gave them a tiny amount of phones to fulfill their pre-orders, and we were WAY too far down on the list to get any love.

We’re not as sad as we thought we were, we had resolved ourselves to not getting one on opening day, (Neither one of us has ANY love for camping out, not in the woods, or in front of an Apple Store. Our idea of roughing it is to stay at a Marriott instead of Hilton..) but it does suck a little. Oh well! Maybe someday I’ll be a big-shot in the iPhone blogging world and get one in advance. Although Leo Laporte doesn’t rate, so what makes me think I might? (GRIN!)

I’ll just console myself by playing with my iPad, and read up on jailbreaking my old 3g. (Yup! As soon as the 4 is in my hands, the old 3g is gonna get jailbroke! Yessiree!)

Just a tip. If you use iTunes gift cards for your music/video/iPhone or iPad apps purchasing, or give them as gifts, do your self a favor and save a few bucks next time you’re in your local Costco Warehouse, or online at Costco.com. Go to the electronics area, find the iPod display, and pick up their $60 iTunes gift card pack. It usually runs around $56 or so. This comes out to 3 or 4 songs, or a couple of apps for free! Gotta save a buck any way you can these days!

I finally found a 32GB WiFi only iPad at my local Apple Store Friday night! I have been playing with it, downloading and trying out apps, for the last 5 days. Now I will be writing my impressions of the device, and available software for the rest of this week. Stay tuned, by this afternoon I should have my first few reviews posted.
I will say this much, if Peter Griffin got his hands on one of these, his review would be just two words: “Freakin’ Sweet!”.

I must say this intrigues me. I’m going to try and buy my iPad this weekend, (early birthday present from my fantastically wonderful wife!), and this whole clamshell thing looks cool. Especially since I don’t seem to be able to find an iPad case with a notepad, pen, and business card holder. I know it might be redundant to have a notepad when you have an iPad, but I like writing things down on the spur of the moment..
